Continuing his on going career as a successful graphic designer, Terry Marks has done a lot of great work. We had the chance to look at some of his successful designs and hear him talk about all the funny words he could come up with.
Julie posing for the camera.
Some dude got in my way, thought he deserved to be here.
I had won this, but then I forgot to ask "what is hair?" It was simply finding the word 'hair' for a rhino's horn :(
Slides of Terry's inspirations.
This was actual magic. The book and the little girl (Gene Marks: Terry's daughter) were two different pictures. I was lucky to have clicked the shoot button just in time for this awesome effect.
Perverted old man. This was on of Terry's videos, which of it all I can remember is the jokes and fun stuffs only.
At the age of 85, he is arguing about how good he was and how better it could have been. Literally and old man's complaints. Good job!
The youth of Eddy Wang (32) who was the new Johny Bravo.
Julie busy and very concentrated, as for me, I was just enjoying the guest speaker's talk.
Think I can relate to this. Reminds of my friend who was approached by a sales girl when he was about to go change. Trust me his guy on the video was exactly what I could have said about my friend.
Remember when I said Johny Bravo; just like that this guy would have said, '911, help there's a good looking guy in my mirror. Oh snap! it just me!'
To the serious part, the designs and works concerning children with Autism.
Terry's works were more than just playful, he said it was more inspiring from within.
Some of the new ideas that were playful and could connect to the children who needed help.
Miss Naomi. She is one of the designers Terry was associated with. To me she's just a very very very pretty picture I wanted put up.
Julie, seriously into the talk. If only I had that concentrating motivation.
ShowBox, a good design and very convincing label and good logo for a business card.
I could not help myself put this one up. Fact: Batman was originally featured in detective 27 comic book series. This was a brief for, 'if Bruce Wayne were not batman, but a detective for the police how would he have done?' This makes me wanna think more about it as well. After all he is my favorite super hero.
"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a fine spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand."
"The only people who achieve much are those who want (something) so badly that they seek it while the conditions are still unfavorable. Favorable conditions never come.
The two statements above are truly inspirational. It's not just words, it struck to me like mantra that not just designers but everyone who are to do good in their lives should remember.
Keep Calm Carry On. This book design was rather challenging. I am not saying it is hard to read but it contains a lot of design elements, which to me had styles ranging from yesterday to the appeal of modern type. All in all, it was a good integration of type and image.
This is a simple example of logo design. It is not very fancy nor is it too much to repeal the need of the consumer. Magnuson Athletic Club was one of few firms Terry has impressed with his skills as a designer.
Sorry for my honesty; I do not remember much about this design. It just looks cool to be up on my blog :D
Some of the other logos Terry Marks had worked on. As I mentioned above, simple and elegant.
Tree Hugger. Emerald City Graphics, 'We love the environment, we really love the environment.'
Finally the hero of the show.
"Where one's place of deepest joy intersects whit their best hope for humanity." Actually, as a tutor of philosophy I know exactly what this line means. But I am more interested in the 3D like effect that my camera accidentally was able to capture :D
"I hope to eat in the future." Now these words are confusing. It was a laughing topic during his talk, but it's like a circle of events. For one to hold it's integrity things have to be in a progressive line.
What I have learnt is, things are up and down, but one cannot just sit back to regret about his/her mistakes. One needs to not just think, but also know how and what to think. These are just a few magic words for a successful person. To add to that, one needs to learn, reason and also be able to implement to prove the worth of talent as a designer.
